PHOTOBLOG: NINTENDO SWITCH 2 Launch! (Spoiler Alert, I Got One)
Well June 5th has come and gone and the Switch 2 is officially upon us. After months of fans scouring to figure out a way to get their hands on Nintendo’s successor, the moment of truth had finally arrived. Now listen, typically I’m not like a one of you pre-ordering types. When it comes to securing a new Nintendo console, I like to do it the old fashioned way, the risky way…the real way. Yes, that means waking up naturally 2 minutes before 5am to go and swing by the nearby Target to see what was cooking on the threat board. And with only 4 people up and in line about an hour and half before the store opened, it was time to roll the dice and see what kinda hand fate was going to deal. That being said, I did refresh for hours on end back in April and did actually score a pre-order for a console that is due to arrive tomorrow.
I just couldn’t wait a couple of days y’know?
First off I gotta give a huge shout out to the essential workers at Nintendo World Store kiosk located inside of the Target next to Toyota of Albany, Ca. These guys were organized. They had a ticket system in place for customers to choose between the console only or a combo with the Mario Kart World packed in. By the time they came out and started passing these around about 10 minutes before opening, the line had stretched pretty far back but it seemed they had plenty of stock and everyone was gonna go home happy.
Easy peasy.
Arriving at the electronics area on the second floor, they had gone all out and redecorated the entire area as my dream birthday party. Aside from the systems stacked behind the counter, all kinds of little Nintendo goodies were strewn about. Plushes, hats, hot wheels, action figures, you name it. It was the kind of set up you just know these nerds had fun staying up all night putting together.
Not pictured, the 4 TotK amiibo I snatched from that counterspace on the left.
It really went super smoothly and I was in and out of the store with the system, a pro controller, 4 new amiibo and wonderful new memories within about 10 minutes. I did poke around for a little bit afterward to see if there were any other accessories worth picking up like a carrying case or something but nothing jumped out so it was time to split. The photo above was taken as I was leaving having already made my purchase obviously.
And there’s the haul right there. Immediately following the taking of this pic was hours worth of software updating and system transferring and video game downloading. It wouldn’t be until well into the afternoon before I’d get a chance to finally get to some playing but now that I have, I’m glad I didn’t wait for the mailman. There really isn’t anything that compares to the feeling of standing in the cold with a bunch of strangers, all there for the same reason before making your purchase and coming home to unbox. A new Nintendo console launch is a truly special thing and the future is looking bright for the Switch 2.
We did it.
Oh and hey thanks NOA, way to get this little beauty here on launch day! That is some quality service that I did not see coming. Welcome to the party, pal!
