HALLOWEEN 2026: Let’s Enter the Survival Horror Togethers!

Typically, I’ll wait until at least October 1st before going full nerd into the Halloween season but y’know what? It’s a misty morning here in the bay area, there’s a chill in the air and I now own C.H.U.D. II on VHS. Yes that’s right, this can mean only one thing: Invasion It’s time to pull the giant tupperware box full of spooky decorations out of the closet and get my shit together.

Which means it’s also time to blow the dust offa this ye olde laptop and reenter The Dorkside and you know how we like to do that. By setting the mood. Last year I made a playlist appropriate for any autumnal occasion (which you can throw on by clicking this) but for Halloween 2026, we’re going a bit more elegant, a bit more peaceful, and a bit more shall we say…foreboding? Recently I had the chance to play through a lot of Resident Evil games that had never made their way to a Nintendo console until the Switch 2. Which naturally set me on a course to revisit previous installments via N64, Gamecube, Wii and even the 3DS. And one thing they all have in common is incredibly soothing save room music. Specifically this track below from the GC remake of the original Playstation title. It’s an area in the game that I used to leave on in the background with the lights low and just bathe in the damn atmosphere (also protip for you parents out there: it really does a solid when it’s nap/bedtime for those kiddos).

Think of it as a bit of a preview of things to come!

So sure, it may have been a while since there’s been much noise at Tales From the Dorkside but here we are. Consider our nerdy little website the Spirit Halloween of nerdy little websites (even though the location closest to my house still hasn’t opened yet no matter how many times I drive past it).
